Frei von Zeit

The mobile that my work is about was one of the first things my mother bought in Lübeck with her own money after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It consists of 14 wooden stork figurines with wide-spread wings and long necks and beaks. Over the years, some of the birds have lost their beaks and some have even lost their heads. She bought the mobile years before she had children, but it has become a piece of home for me. It hung above my cot when I was little and remained in my room for a long time after I’d outgrown the cot. I spent a long time looking at the birds and know their shape intuitively. That’s why, for the accompanying piece, I crafted the wax models by hand without using a precise template. I made plaster moulds from these very models and then recreated the storks in glass using homemade glass frit.

Frei von Zeit was shown at the solo-exhibition ‘things we hold dear’ 01-02/2026 at Atelier Gröbl in Koblenz.

Das Mobile, von dem meine Arbeit handelt, war einer der ersten Einkäufe, die meine Mutter nach der Wende in Lübeck von ihrem eigenen Geld tätigte. Es besteht aus 14 aus Holz geschnitzten Störchen mit weit ausgebreiteten Flügeln und langen Hälsen und Schnäbeln. In den Jahren haben einige Vögel schon ihre Schnäbel und manche sogar ihre Köpfe verloren. Das Mobile kaufte sie Jahre bevor sie Kinder hatte, aber es ist ein Stück Zuhause für mich geworden. Es hing über meinem Babybett als ich noch klein war und hing auch noch lange Zeit, nachdem ich schon aus dem Bett herausgewachsen war, in meinem Zimmer. Ich habe die Vögel lange Zeit betrachtet und kenne ihre Form intuitiv. Darum habe ich zu der dazugehörigen Arbeit die Wachsmodelle per Hand und ohne genaue Vorlage gefertigt. Ich habe Gipsformen von eben diesen gemacht und habe mit selbstgemachtem Glasfritt dann die Störche aus Glas nachempfunden.

Frei von Zeit wurde bei der Solo-Ausstellung ‘things we hold dear’ 01-02/2026 im Atelier Gröbel in Koblenz ausgetellt.
